Simultaneous launch applications with different settings

EMDI lets you open the same application more than once, with separate settings (and, if you want, a different company/database).

Useful when you have two cash desks, two workstations on the same PC, or a separate launch for an e-shop connector/sync job, without mixing their settings. For example, you can run one layout with a virtual keyboard and another classic layout for invoicing at the same time.

  • Find your EMDI install folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\SBZ systems\EMDI\ or C:\Program Files\SBZ systems\EMDI\).
  • Choose a simple profile key with Latin letters or digits and no spaces, e.g. tameio2, shopA, connector1.
  • Each key is a separate settings profile.

How to set it up

  1. Create a shortcut for the application you need (Sales, Customers, Warehouse, e-shop connector, etc.).
  2. Open the shortcut properties and in the Target field put the path to the .exe plus six empty parameters (" "), so the key goes in the seventh position.
  3. As the seventh parameter, put your key in quotes.

You can keep the normal EMDI (no key) open together with the keyed shortcut — they are two independent profiles.

What happens when you open it

  • Under the install folder’s personal directory, EMDI creates (if needed) a subfolder named after your key, e.g. personal\tameio2\.
  • That folder stores this profile’s local settings (layout, screen options, toolbars, and so on).
  • Company/database selection for the profile is remembered separately from your normal Windows user profile.
  • When you open other EMDI screens from that window, the same key is passed automatically so they stay in the same profile.

Everyday use

  • Open the normal shortcut for your main workstation.
  • Open the second shortcut (with another key) for the second desk with different settings.
  • Each window keeps its own settings.

Tips

  • Use short, clear key names. The key becomes a folder name.
  • Do not put spaces or special characters in the key.
  • Keep the first six parameters in the shortcut as " ". Those parameters are used by EMDI when it opens windows from inside the program.
  • If you open Sales from another EMDI application (e.g. from Customers), the program keeps a temporary separate layout for that window so it does not overwrite the main Sales screen layout.
